When I was a little boy, my parents bought me a small plastic camera for Christmas. I played around with it, but it wasn't until 1972, when I was 22 that I really became interested in photography.

I travelled around the country with two of my friends. My father gave me a rangefinder camera so I could document my trip. I knew nothing about the camera settings, so following the advice of a friend, I set the camera at f5.6 and 125th of a second to get "normal pictures"! I wound up with slides that were pure black while others looked like clear film. Luckily, a few were perfectly exposed!

The "perfect" pictures inspired me to sign up for a commercial photography class at a local art school. I didn't realize when I signed up that the course specialized in large format, studio photography using studio strobes. I soon fell in love with creating still life images, but still retained my passion for shooting outdoors with the natural light.

After assisting one of the foremost still-life photographer in the country, I went out on my own, where I shot advertising/editorial work for the next 30 years for clients which included SCM Corp., Glidden Paints, Durkee Foods, and a number of health care facilities. I recently decided to transition from advertising/editorial photography to fine art photography. The galleries on my website include both genres of photography, studio still-life with studio lighting and outdoor natural light photography.
